The year 2001 marks our 57th year. OPERADELAWARE remains one of the most enduring and successful companies in the nation. There are only 13 companies that have been around longer, and we are one of only a handful of companies that owns a central building for administration, rehearsal, and production support.
Financially solvent throughout our history, OPERADELAWARE's annual budget today exceeds $1,000,000, with an estimated $400,000 worth of support from volunteers. We receive national and local funds.
The Family Opera Theater, founded in 1970, serves over 9,000 students a year with performances at The Grand Opera House that are specifically related to the reading curriculum in Delaware schools.

The performances are supported by previews and a study guide that links the musical to State curriculum standard Goals 2000. In addition, the Family Opera Theater has commissioned six world premieres by nationally known composers, including Gian Carlo Menotti, Libby Larsen, Charles Stouse (Annie), John Rutter and Evelyn Swensson.
OPERADELAWARE artists have performed in major houses throughout the world, including The Metropolitan Opera, The New York City Opera, Covent Garden, The Munich Opera, San Francisco Opera, and Chicago Lyric Opera. The orchestra is drawn from our outstanding Delaware Symphony.
