Thats what OPERADELAWARES Artistic Director hopes will happen at the Wesley College Boys & Girls Club next month. According to Leland Kimball, Artistic Director for OPERADELAWARE, the goal is to "infuse Opera and the key concepts of music into the everyday activities of going to camp." Beginning on August 14 through August 18, 2000, OPERADELAWARE will present its second year of introduction to musical theater to children at Summer Camp. "Our first year was great." said Julie Van Blarcom, Managing Director for OPERADELAWARE, "This second year we partnered with the Wilmington YWCA to get students to write and produce their own song based on the movie Matilda. The kids loved it!" OPERADELAWARE is now expanding this program to include the Boys & Girls Club in Dover. The classes will be taught by Cal Brackin, head of the Vocal Department at The Clydn Center for the Performing Arts in West Chester, PA. "What was most exciting to me," said Cal, "was having students return from last year remembering terms like orchestration and choreography." Interested parents can register their children by calling the Boys & Girls Club at (302) 678-5199, or by registering at 120 North State Street, Dover, DE 19901. This OPERADELAWARE program is funded in part by the Delaware Division of the Arts, The Presser Foundation, The Chase Manhattan Foundation, and J.P. Morgan, all of which are committed to enhancing and supporting the Arts in Delaware. |
